After a career weekend against ASU, Arizona men’s club hockey freshman Jordan Schupan spoke with the Arizona Daily Wildcat to discuss his first collegiate hat trick, his expectations for the rest of the season and who he’d like to see in his hot tub.
Wildcat: How did it feel to score the game-winning goal against ASU Friday night?
Schupan: It felt great. Our whole line played awesome – we combined for five third-period goals. I was just proud of how the team battled back from the deficit. It really showed what we’re made of.
W: Have you ever scored a hat trick before?
S: Yeah, but it was really nice to start off my Arizona career that way.
W: Why did you come to the desert to play hockey?
S: (laughs) My buddy from back home, (junior defenseman) Zack Stommen, told me about the program. When I came to visit, I liked what I saw and decided to come here and play.
W: Are you surprised you’re making such an immediate impact?
S: When I got here, I was just hoping to make an impact in a positive way. I didn’t think it would be so soon, but I’m just glad to be helping the team.
W: What are your expectations for the team for the rest of the season?
S: We need to carry the momentum up to New York for the ACHA Showcase. We have three games up there, and we’re shooting for a sweep. We really have high expectations this year, with the obvious goal being nationals. I think we can make it happen. We have the chemistry and talent this year to get the job done.
W: Who is your favorite hockey player?
S: Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings. He’s really good.
W: What’s your favorite sport other than hockey?
S: Golf. Being from Kalamazoo, Mich., I don’t get the chance to play very much. But I try to play during the offseason when the weather is nice.
W: What’s your favorite show on TV?
S: “”Entourage.”” But I am looking forward to the next season of “”Nip/Tuck.””
W: What’s on your iPod right now?
S: (laughs) Actually, it’s broken right now. I need to head to the bookstore and pick up a new one before we leave for New York.
W: Well, what CD is in your stereo, then?
S: Right now, a Biggie mix.
W: If you could invite three people over to your house for dinner, who would it be?
S: Warren Buffet, Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler.
W: If you could invite three people over to your hot tub, who would it be?
S: (laughs) Jessica Alba and two beautiful girls from the UA, seeing as how I’m single and all.
