Former UA running back, Orlando Bradford, sentenced to five years in prison

Former Arizona running back Orlando Bradford was sentenced to five years in prison today after a September guilty plea for aggravated assault, according to the Arizona Daily Star.  Pima County Superior Court Judge Teresa Godoy sentenced Bradford to 2.5 years for each assault and ordered him to pay $22,000 in restitution, according to the report.

Bradford started 2016 as the backup running back for the Wildcats before his arrest in September of last year.  The victim in the case has also filed a lawsuit, seeking $1 million against the University for the athletic department’s failure to take the appropriate actions when they allegedly knew of the wrongdoing, according to the report.

According to the Star,  he was charged with 10 felonies and five misdemeanors and scheduled for trial in October, before accepting a plea deal. Because prison is a requirement of his guilty plea, Bradford was taken into custody immediately following the Sept. 29 hearing and held in the Pima County jail pending sentencing.
