Arizona gymnastics head coach Tabitha Yim has accepted the same position at Stanford University, according to Stanford Athletics. Yim spent two seasons as the GymCats head coach and returns to the Cardinal where she was an All-American during her four years at Stanford. Yim is replacing her former coach Kristen Smyth, who retired after 16 seasons earlier this month.
“I want to thank Bernard Muir and the staff at Stanford for this opportunity,” said Yim in a press release. “I am thrilled to be returning home to The Farm and am passionate about carrying on the amazing legacy of this program and university.”
Before Arizona, Yim spent five seasons as the Stanford
Gymnastics assistant coach, coaching all four events specializing in beam and
floor as an elite choreographer. Yim led the Wildcats to a sixth-place Pac-12 finish in 2016 and finished in third place at the Pac-12 Championships in session one just a year ago. Widely considered a promising young head coach in the sport, Yim leaves Arizona Athletics in search of a new coach.
