A man identified as a UA student was tackled, handcuffed and taken away in an ambulance after getting into a scuffle with a police officer on Monday evening behind Circle K on Speedway Boulevard and Park Avenue.
At about 5:30 p.m., Tucson Police went to a house in the 1100 block of North De Niza Avenue in response to a domestic dispute between two roommates, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Pacheco said police attempted to arrest the man, but he resisted and attacked one of the officers.
According to Dwight Smith, the man’s neighbor, the man was a UA student and a member of the UA Icecats Hockey Team.
The man was acting irrationally and assaulted one of the police officers.
“”The tussle went on for a few minutes, he put up a good fight, and then jumped a fence and ran off toward Speedway,”” said Smith.
Tucson police officers pursued the man who ran to the corner of Speedway and Park where he was taken down and handcuffed by officers according to eyewitnesses.
