Alison Walshe’s dream came true, but she probably envisioned it going better.

Walshe, the senior captain of the Arizona golf team, completed her first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the first of four LPGA Majors this year, shooting a 6-over 78 to finish the first day tied in 95th place.

“”I am obviously not that pleased with my score,”” Walshe said. “”The conditions were kind of tough, it was really windy and I just struggled on the back-nine. … It was windy all day, but it probably was a little worse on the (back-nine).””

Walshe shot a 1-over 37 on the front-nine, but struggled to find her rhythm in the final nine holes, as she shot a 5-over 41.
Meanwhile, UA grads Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam continued their excellence on the tour, as both finished in the top-10 after the first day.

Ochoa shot a 4-under 68, good enough for second place, while
Sorenstam carded a 1-under 71 which slotted her tied for tenth place.

Though Walshe didn’t shoot what she would have liked, she still has a chance to redeem herself today while enjoying the atmosphere of an LPGA environment.

“”It was cool to play in front of the crowds and you have a lot of support,”” she said. “”The course was in great shape.””

Her goal is simple. All she wants to do is “”shoot a lower score.””
