The Pac-12 Preview for women’s golf started Monday afternoon in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. This 3-day tournament in the Aloha land is the start of a premier conference tournament getting all the teams primed for the season.

Arizona would have liked to capitalize with the environment a little better in round one as they finished in 7th out of the 12 teams after day one and a full nine strokes behind Stanford who was leading the tournament. The nine strokes may seem like a lot but considering the difficulty of the course and Arizona’s score of 5 over Monday, the possibilities of coming back were most definitely there. 

Arizona had two of the top 22 individual performers Monday with Gile Bite Starkute and Yu-Sang Hou. Starkute had a fabulous day shooting a 2 under 71 and Yu-sang Hoe stayed par for the course with an even 73. 

Katherine Muzi from USC is leading the tournament with a dominant performance posting a 68 on this course which is on the difficult side of course slopes. 

On day two Arizona was able to move up on the leaderboard swiftly with a 9 stroke difference from day one. Shooting a combined 288 on Tuesday and sitting at 1 over for the full tournament, the Wildcats are now only 6 strokes behind Stanford who has been leading the whole way.

Arizona currently has 4 golfers in the top 28 after two days and Starkute is still leading the way in fifth place at 3 under. 

Vivian Hou had a forgettable day one but matched that with an unforgettable day two by shooting eighth strokes below her Monday total and is currently tied with fellow Arizona golfer Yu-Sang Hou in 10th place, shooting 2 over. 

A similar performance on the final matchday will keep Arizona in the top three and potentially even contend for the championship as they are making their arrival statement in this Pac-12 Preview.
