Arizona freshman forward Lauri Markkanen was named to the Late Season Top 20 list for the John R. Wooden Award on Wednesday. The award recognizes the top player in the nation at the end of each season. Markkanen appeared in the Preseason Top 50 Wooden Award list as well.
The final list will be announced in early March and will consist of 15 players. The winner will be announced after the conclusion of the NCAA tournament.
The Pac-12 had three other players represented on the list. Dillon Brooks (Oregon), Markelle Fultz (Washington) and Lonzo Ball (UCLA) also appear on the Late Season list.
The Atlantic Coast Conference had the most players on the list with five, followed by the Pac-12 with four, the Big 12 and Big Ten had three apiece and the SEC had two representatives.
Markkanen is averaging 15.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He is shooting 45.7 percent from 3-point range and leads Arizona in scoring.
