The Tucson Roadrunners made it two in a row with a 5-2 win on Tuesday as they hosted the San Antonio Rampage at the Tucson Convention Center.
San Antonio came out strong scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the game, including a power play marker. Roadrunner goaltender Marek Langhamer shut the door after the early lead making 27 saves on 29 shots.
The Roadrunners were down early but battled their way into the lead before the end of the period. Ryan Maclnnis scored his eighth goal of the season on a breakaway chance going five-hole on the Rampage goaltender. Jeremy Morin tied the game at two on the power play with his 12th of the season. Chris Mueller scored the third goal of the game for the Roadrunners on his 15th of the year, it was his second point of the night.
Mueller, now with 57 points on the season, has tied last year’s total playing with the San Diego Gulls. Mueller is tied for fourth in the league with 57 points, one away from third place.
“Got to thank the teammates for sure for putting pucks in the net,” Mueller said. ”Our power play was clicking early in the year. That’s my job to produce, if I’m not producing I’m not doing my job.”
Connor Garland added insurance in the third period with his third goal of the season, on a play where he was looking for a pass. Laurent Dauphin added an empty net goal that secured the 5-2 victory, it was his 16th of the season.
Goaltender Marek Langhamer made a huge save in the third period on the penalty kill, going post-to-post on a spread eagle save.
Former Rampage captain Joe Whitney faced his former team for the last time this season and the first at his new home the TCC.
“It’s just another game, maybe a little different playing there in San Antonio. Here it is no different, just have to go out there and take care of business,” Whitney said.
The Roadrunners have won two straight games, scoring nine goals while only allowing six. The Roadrunners offense has been more productive the past two games putting in four goals in one period.
“I think we are getting some pucks to the net, you really never know the main reason of why its starting to go in,” said head coach Mark Lamb. ”We had some different guys score goals, we got one on the power play which is very important. You know things are going your way when you score a goal and don’t even shoot the puck on the net.”
The Roadrunners end their home season with two games against the Gulls Friday and Saturday.
