Arizona head coach Kevin Sumlin is expected to be dismissed, per Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports.

Sumlin was hired by Arizona back in 2018 and is currently 9-20 with the Wildcats in that three-year span.

“When we hired Kevin three years ago, we had very high hopes for our football program,” Arizona athletic director Dave Heeke said in a statement. “Unfortunately, we simply have not seen the results and upward trajectory in our program that we needed to, and I believe now is the time for a change in leadership. I thank Kevin for his service to the University of Arizona and wish him the very best in the future.”

After last night’s 63 point defeat against Arizona State, the Wildcats are now 0-5 this season and have lost 12 consecutive games dating back to last year. If Arizona meets the required amount of scholarship players to play a game next week, defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads will be the team’s interim coach, per Stadium’s Brett McMurphy.

“Our attention now turns to finding the next head coach at the University of Arizona, while we continue to support our student-athletes, who have sacrificed so much since returning to campus this summer,” Heeke said in a statement. “We will cast a wide net to identify and recruit a coach who shares our vision, our values and our passion for winning.”

Sumlin is expected to receive a $7.5 million buyout if fired.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information when it arrives.
