The Solar Technology Showcase, held at University of Arizona Tech Park at Rita Road, will feature the National Solar Car Challenge on Saturday, July 21, at 2:00 p.m.

The co-ed go-kart event features the nation’s most skilled high school programs in a solar car competition. The event is a collaboration between students enrolled at the UA and experts of the solar go-kart community. 

Bruce Wright, associate vice president of Tech Parks Arizona, said the event is great for putting student-made technology on display.

“The overall goal is to increase recognition of the solar car program,” Wright said. “We also aim to excite the students participating as well as ones who want to get involved. There will be 325 participants from all around the nation competing.”

After the race, at 2:45 p.m., each team of engineers will present their go-karts. The innovative cars will show the audience how dedicated each participant is to his or her community. 

And that’s not all. This event will also feature the park’s Solar Zone, which Wright said is the biggest solar installation of its kind in the United States, and will share additional tested technologies from current scientists and engineers.
