The results for the Associated Students of the University of Arizona election were announced Thursday night, with Issac Ortega becoming the next president.
The 5,046 total ballots cast awarded Ortega, a business economics junior, the presidency. Voter turnout for this election was the second highest in ASUA history. Ortega will succeed ASUA President Morgan Abraham, an engineering management senior.
“None of this, honestly, would have been possible without the amazing people by my side,” Ortega said. “I could never dream of doing this, and this is beyond surreal. I would just like to say thank you to everybody else.”
Ortega beat out, Taylor Ashton, a political science and economics junior, by a 353 vote margin, receiving 53.3 percent of the votes to Ashton’s 45.6 percent.
The position of executive vice president went to Jordan Allison, a journalism and gender and women’s studies junior. Daniel Choice Anderson, a political science and psychology sophomore, lost to Allison who received 2,233 votes, 69.3 percent of the votes.
“I am so overwhelmed, the support has been amazing,” Allison said. “I cannot wait to begin this next year as executive vice president.”
Daniel Douglas, a philosophy, politics, economics and law sophomore, ran unopposed and was elected to administrative vice president.
The 10 senators elected, in order of votes received, were Elena Gold, Ellen Dunn, Brooke Serack, Michael Finnegan, Joshua Wexler, Joey Steigerwald, Jack Emery, Trey Cox, William Box and Joe Zanoni.
