    3 things to know today

    Nominations for Five Star Faculty Award

    Students can nominate their favorite professor for the Five Star Faculty Award until 5 p.m. Feb. 16. The award is the UA’s only student-nominated and student-selected teaching award, and has been honoring outstanding professors since 1983. If you think one of your professors is worthy of recognition, visit https://honors.arizona.edu/secure/5star.asp to submit a nomination.

    Graduate school and Ronald E. McNair Achievement Program meeting

    Andrew Huerta, assistant director of theprogram, will share tips today on applying to graduate school and how the program can help. The meeting is from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the CǸsar E. Chávez building, Room 211. The program is designed to increase the number of doctorates awarded to students from groups underrepresented in higher education.

    Men’s sweat increases women’s hormones

    A chemical found in male sweat can raise levels of the stress hormone cortisol in heterosexual women, according to a new study from the University of California, Berkeley. The study, published this week in The Journal of Neuroscience, provides the first direct evidence that humans, like rats, moths and butterflies, secrete a scent that affects the physiology of the opposite sex.
