Arizona pitcher Bobby Dalbec (3) pitches against Oklahoma State during the College World Series on Monday, June 20 in Omaha, Nebraska. Dalbec allowed just one run in eight innings of work against the Cowboys.

After a two-hour rain delay, the Arizona baseball team was kept off the scoreboard Monday night, losing 1-0 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Wildcats’ second College World Series game in Omaha, Nebraska.

The two teams combined for just eight hits, and an RBI single by OSU’s Garrett Benge in the fourth inning accounted for the only run of the game.

Bobby Dalbec started on the mound for the Wildcats and pitched eight solid innings, allowing just the one run while striking out 12 batters. However, the lone run was all OSU needed.

Tyler Buffett threw a gem for the Cowboys, tossing eight scoreless innings, while striking out six Wildcats. Trey Cobb took over for Buffett in the ninth and pitched a scoreless frame to close the game out.

Arizona got just one runner into scoring position in the entire game, thanks to a walk and a stolen base by Louis Boyd with two outs in the third inning. But the Wildcats couldn’t capitalize, and they didn’t have any major scoring threats after that inning.

Now pinned with a loss, Arizona will look to avoid elimination Wednesday against UC-Santa Barbara. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. The winner will take on Oklahoma State and will need to beat the undefeated Cowboys twice in a row to advance, while the loser will be eliminated.
