    “Sports briefs: Softball, gymnastics sign 2009 recruits”

    The Arizona softball team inked four National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA’s early signing period for the 2009-10 class.
    ? Brigette DelPonte – C/INF, Sunrise Mountain High School, Peoria, Ariz.
    ? Kenzie Fowler – P, Canyon del Oro High School, Tucson Baillie Kirker – 3B/1B, Crescenta Valley High School, Montrose, Calif.
    ? Rebecca Tikey – OF, Horizon High School, Scottsdale, Ariz.
    Meanwhile, the UA gymnastics team signed five players of its own.
    ? Britnie Jones, Phoenix Ellen Pitluck, Chicago, Ill.
    ? Mykle Douglas, Plano, Texas Molly Quirk, Albany, NY
    ? Aubree Cristello, Schenectady, NY
    Jones will be graduating high school a semester early and enrolling in the UA in January, at which time she will join the team. The rest will be part of the 2009-10 class.

    Cuellar named All-Freshmen Pac-10 team
    Forward Renae Cuellar was tabbed to the All-Freshmen Pacific 10 Conference Team on Thursday.
    Cuellar played in 19 games for the Wildcats, starting 18 of them. She tied with teammates Karina Camacho and London King for most goals on the team with five. Cuellar was second on the team with 12 points.
    “”I am pretty happy and excited about the announcement,”” Cuellar said in a statement. “”I put a lot of pressure on myself because I have high expectations. All the hard (work) I put in paid off.””
