Suicides likelier in homes with guns

The presence of guns in homes is linked with higher suicide rates, according to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health published in the April issue of the Journal of Trauma. The study found the 15 states with the highest rates of household gun ownership, with similar populations, had twice as many suicides.

Severely obese are fastest-growing segment of overweight Americans

A new study from the RAND Corporation reveals that the number of severely obese Americans grew by 50 percent between 2000 and 2005. People are classified as severely obese when their body mass index, a weight-to-height ratio, is 40 or higher.
