That one friend

A non-UA affiliated man was arrested in a Colonia de la Paz dorm room for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Sunday at 1:30 a.m.

Two officers from the University of Arizona Police Department responded to a call from the residence hall that there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from either one of two rooms.

When officers arrived, they could not smell marijuana coming from either rooms but did hear loud noises coming from one room after the residence hall’s posted quiet hours.

When officers knocked, a student opened the door and a strong smell of marijuana came from the room. Officers told the student that he and the other three men inside were in violation of the university’s posted quiet hour policy.

The officers asked to enter the room and the students agreed. Officers noted that one man in the far right corner of the room had red, watery eyes.

Three men denied having smoked any marijuana or having any marijuana present. The man in the corner of the room raised his hand and admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier and was carrying some with him at that time.

The man said he was from Chandler, Ariz., and was visiting his friend at the UA for the weekend. He admitted to having smoked off-campus earlier and handed officers two white grape flavored cigars. The tobacco had been taken out of the cigars and replaced with marijuana.

The man was arrested, cited and released from the scene.

The curious thief

A UA student was arrested, cited and released for larceny and embezzlement on Oct. 18 at 2:57 p.m., after a UA supervisor reported the student stealing money from the Park Student Union.

When UAPD officers arrived to PSU to speak to the supervisor, she told them $20.01 had gone missing from an employee’s cash drawer on Oct. 12. When she confronted the employee, he said he didn’t know about the missing money.

But when she spoke to other cashiers, she found the student had asked another worker to put money in her cash drawer because he was going to be short. If she put money in, it would even out. After hearing this, the supervisor spoke to the student again to when he then admitted to stealing the money.

“I was bored, and wanted to see what would happen, and I took it,” he told her.

The student was immediately fired. After speaking with the supervisor, officers called the student for questioning about the incident.

The student admitted to saying that he took the money because he wanted to see what would happen.
He was arrested, cited and released and a code of conduct was forwarded to the Dean of Students Office.
