Two men fatally shot while sitting on porch in Oakland

Two men were shot to death in East Oakland Tuesday night as they stood on the porch of one of the victim’s home, police said.

The names of the dead men were not immediately released. Police said the man who lived at the house was 22 and the other victim was a 35-year-old San Francisco resident who grew up in Oakland and was apparently visiting.

Two dogs at another home on the block were also killed by gunfire and at least one other house was hit by bullets but no one was injured there, police said.

The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. in the 6100 block of Harmon Avenue.

Sgt. Jim Rullamas said Wednesday at least one gunman opened fire on the two men from across the street before fleeing. Both men died at the scene. Police said they believe there were some other people with the men who were not hit but they fled before officers arrived.

Rullamas said police don’t have a motive yet for the attack and no arrests have been made.

Police said it appears the gunman also killed the two dogs that were in a yard across the street from where the victims were. Another house on the side of the street where the gunman fired from was hit by gunfire but the residents were not hurt.

The killings are Oakland’s 25th and 26th homicides of the year. Last year at this time there were 17 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $20,000 in reward money for information
