A teenage boy made the ultimate bad decision Monday when he drove past Liberty Lake Police Detective Ray Bourgeois, who was in his unmarked patrol car, and pointed a gun at him.
Bourgeois followed the teen until another officer arrived and the driver was ordered out of the car at gunpoint, said police chief Brian Asmus. A toy gun made to look like a .45 caliber handgun was found in the car. “”The subject did not realize that he pointed the gun at an officer and told the officer he was an avid gamer and had always wondered what it would be like to point a gun at a real person and pull the trigger,”” Asmus said. He was charged with unlawful exhibit/display of a weapon.
Police were called to the 19000 block of East Maxwell on March 23 on a report of a juvenile male seen waving a handgun in the air. The person was gone when police arrived, but the officers spotted pellets littering the ground, said Asmus. “”They followed the pellets to the house,”” Asmus said.
The 13-year-old boy admitted firing the toy gun, which did have the orange tip on it as required, he said. Still, the tip isn’t easy to see at a distance. “”It was a pretty realistic looking gun,”” Asmus said.
On March 27 police were called to the 22800 block of East County Vista Drive for a domestic violence incident at 1 a.m. A 33-year-old Liberty Lake man was arrested on a charge of domestic violence assault after allegedly punching his girlfriend in the head several times, Asmus said. The woman did require medical treatment.
An officer spotted a car spinning brodies in the trailhead parking lot in the 3300 block of North Harvard Road at 10 p.m. on March 27. The driver, identified as a 21-year-old Pullmanresident, was arrested on a charge of reckless driving.
Just after 11 a.m. on March 28 police were notified by Spokane Valley police of two suspects who had burglarized an occupied home before running when the homeowner woke up and confronted them. A description of the duo’s vehicle was included in the information. “”It drove right by Sgt. Gibson,”” said Asmus. The two were arrested at Harvard and Mission.
