Two men were seen consuming alcoholic beverages at a bus stop on East Speedway Boulevard and North Warren Avenue at 9:15 a.m. Aug. 31, reports stated.
The police noticed the man with a can of malt liquor in his hand.
The other man was holding a mug. When asked what it was filled with, the man said beer.
The two were cited and released for consuming alcohol in public.
A man was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after the car he was riding in was pulled over for speeding, reports stated.
Police paced the Cadillac at 46 mph when it was going eastbound on East Sixth Street at 10:10 a.m. Aug. 31.
The officer smelled marijuana in the car and asked the two males about the scent.
The passenger leaned down and produced a multicolored glass pipe from the backpack in front of him.
The police searched the two males and the vehicle and found a glass jar of marijuana on the passenger’s body.
The men were cited and released and the paraphernalia was placed into police evidence.
Someone broke into a Jeep Cherokee while it was parked in a lot at 1032 E. Helen St. between 8:30 a.m. and 12:33 p.m. Aug. 31, reports stated.
When the owner returned to the car, he saw the right door lock had been punched and the dashboard had been cracked and was lying on the driver’s side floor.
A $250 stereo, $300 iPod, an estimated $120 worth of CDs and a $250 pair of black sunglasses were taken from the car.
Police could not find usable fingerprints.
A medical textbook was shoplifted from the UofA Bookstore, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., at 1:20 p.m. Aug. 31, reports stated.
A man entered the bookstore and ran out with the book “”Computed Body, Tomography with MRI Correlation.””
A bookstore employee said a red truck with miscellaneous construction tools in the bed was waiting outside for him.
The license plate was not seen.
Two male students were cited and released for possession of marijuana at Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., at 12:56 a.m. Aug. 31, reports stated.
Police responded to a report of the smell of marijuana coming from the south side of the building.
The police stopped the two males as they were returning up a ramp to the dorm’s back entrance.
The males’ eyes were watery and red, and their speech was also slurred and slow when the police encountered them.
The men said they were outside talking about their girlfriends.
Police placed the men in handcuffs while they searched the area.
Officers found a burnt joint where the men had been standing and placed it into evidence.
Car keys were found near the area of the Modern Languages building, 1423 E. University Blvd., at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31, reports stated.
There were no identifying characteristics on the keys.
The keys were placed in property and evidence for safekeeping.
