The Student Services Fee Advisory Board granted $209,300 to the Student Advocacy and Assistance program for three years of funding, $43,500 of which will be used this year. The Associated Students of the University of Arizona also received $125,000 in student fees for club funding, which it distributes to various campus clubs.
The board intended to only allocate $1.5 million, leaving a 10 percent buffer, but spent $7,500 more than its goal when granting $40,000 to the Justice Education and Diversity Internship Program, a program that assists interns involved in several cultural centers. The board also allocated $25,200 to the Student Emergency Medical Services club and $60,000 to the Daily Wildcat.
A request for $100,000 from ASUA to fund visits from notable speakers such as Maya Angelou and Jon Stewart was denied due by the board due to insufficient funds. The request was deemed “unnecessary” and a “luxury,” board members said.
