Grado takes first in UA dive invite

Sophomore diver Ben Grado highlighted the three-day Arizona Diving Invite, by taking first place in the men’s 1-meter event on Friday. Grado scored 392.65 in the debut invite for the new Hillenbrand Aquatic Center dive towers, defeating divers from 14 other universities.

Grado continued his success Saturday, finishing second in the men’s 3m competition. Teammate Matt McCahill competed well in the men’s consolation, placing eighth.

Four men’s divers finished in the top 11 of Sunday’s mixed platform finals – led by Grado – who finished with a score of 294.75, good enough for third place.

Freshman Ainsley Oliver represented the Wildcats well, placing fourth in the women’s 3m finals on Friday. Sophomore Samantha Kunk finished the platform event with a 185.80-point score.

“”We are very pleased with our first invitational held in our new pool,”” said diving head coach Michele Mitchell through Arizona Athletics. “”We anticipate hosting additional competitions in the future.””
