Samantha Czarniak looks on during Arizona’s matchup with the Tulane University Green Waves. The Wildcats won the match 5-2.

After starting off the season 2-0, Arizona looked to remain undefeated against Tulane, who have jumped out to a 6-0 start themselves. The Wildcats dominated Tulane in the singles matchup and scored a 5-2 victory for their third straight win to begin the season.

The Wildcats started off strong against Tulane when all three doubles teams jumped out to early leads. The Wildcats led in all three matches with scores of 4-2, 4-2, and 4-3 to start off the matches. However, Tulane quickly closed the gap and was able to split the first two games with the Wildcats. On Court 1, Arizona took the win with a final score of 6-2. On Court 3, Tulane fought back from behind to win the match, 6-4.

On Court 2, Arizona and Tulane were going back and forth and found each other locked in a 6-6 match. The tiebreaker went the distance, and the Green Waves were able to steal the doubles match winning the tiebreaker 7-5.

Going into the singles event, Arizona was down 1-0 but quickly pulled away with strong performances from their veterans. The singles team took five of the six games against Tulane, winning the meet and handing Tulane their first loss of the season with a final score of 5-2.

Senior Lauren Marker once again put forth a strong performance to lead the Wildcats, winning her match handily 6-0, 6-2. Marker is 3-1 on the season, and continues to be Arizona’s No. 1 player.

With wins from senior Samantha Czarniak 6-1, 6-0, freshman Marie Van Aelst 6-2, 6-1, sophomore Camila Wesbrooks 6-3, 6-1 and freshman Paris Corley 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(10-5), the Wildcats were able to remain undefeated in dominating fashion.

Up next for Arizona is a back-to-back home meet on Sunday, February 4th against Sacramento State at 9:00 a.m. MST and UTEP at 2 p.m. MST.
