After what was a very promising fall season that saw a young Arizona women’s tennis team gain much-needed experience and up its game, the Wildcats are set for what should be an exciting spring season.

Arizona will open up its spring season in Honolulu, Hawaii, against Hawaii, a team that will have already played three games by the time they face Arizona on Sunday.

Much of the fall season was dominated by talented young freshmen Camila Wesbrooks and Sophia Thomas.

The deadly veteran upperclassmen duo of Lauren Marker and Samantha Czarniak also reached new heights in the fall.

Czarniak blew away the rest of the field in the San Diego State Fall Classic, the final tournament of the fall, where she took home first place.

Lauren Marker entered the season ranked the highest she has ever been at No. 43. While her rank entering the spring is lower at No. 62, Marker will definitely use this as a driving force. We should see her return to being ranked in the top 50 before Pac-12 Conference play begins.

Arizona head coach Vicky Maes expressed her excitement for the team to get its season underway.

“For the majority of our squad, it will be a new experience to play college matches,” Maes said in a press release. “I expect some early jitters from the girls, but I know we are ready to compete hard. We have a very tough schedule, and we will be tested right away.”

Jet lag will be a factor in the Wildcats match-up with Hawaii, but they’re expected to pull away in this match due to the Rainbow Warriors’ playing a ranked San Jose State the day before.
