6 coaches’ extensions approved

During the Arizona Board of Regents meeting last in Flagstaff, the contracts of six Arizona coaches were approved — five extensions and an original contract for newly hired swim coach Eric Hansen.

Men’s basketball head coach Sean Miller’s contract will steal the headlines, and rightfully so — the 42-year-old’s contract extension makes him the highest-paid public employee in the state of Arizona.

Here’s a look at the Arizona coaches whose contract extensions were approved over the weekend.

 

Sean Miller

Sport: men’s basketball

Contract length: 2-year extension through April 2016

Raise: $100,000 per year

Total value: $1.7 million from UA, $400,000 from Nike and IMG per year

 

Mike Candrea

Sport: softball

Contract length: 3-year extension through June 2014

Raise: $22,850 per year

Total value: $162,000 per year

 

Niya Butts

Sport: women’s basketball

Contract length: 3-year extension through June 2016

Raise: $10,000 per year

Total value: $210,000 per year

Dave Rubio

Sport: volleyball

Contract length: 3-year extension through December 2014

Raise: $2,500 per year

Total value: $97,850 per year

 

Tad Berkowitz

Sport: men’s tennis

Contract length: 3-year extension through June 2014

Raise: $4,937 per year

Total value: $67,000 per year

 

Eric Hansen

Sport: women’s and men’s swimming and diving

Contract length: 3 year contract through April 2014

Contract value: $120,000 per year
