This Saturday, the Arizona gymnastics team will once again venture to Corvallis, Ore. to take on the rest of the conference competition in the Pac-12 championship.

The competition is divided into two halves. The top four seeds will compete at 7 p.m. and seeds 5-8 will compete at 1:30 p.m. The winner will be determined like any regular meet; the top all-around score will place first despite the seed.

After all the regional qualifying scores were totaled, Arizona was placed in the 5th seed. These scores are based on each team’s six highest scores, three of which are away meets. Then, the top score is thrown out, and the five remaining scores are averaged.

When Arizona competes Saturday, it will be taking on No. 6 Washington, No. 7 ASU and No. 8 California. Looking back at this season, Arizona has come up short to Washington and California but blew ASU out of the water.

But as the outcome of every competition demonstrates, the rankings don’t matter. What matters is who decides to show up that day.

The night competition consists of top seeded Utah followed by No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Oregon State and No. 4 Stanford.

Throughout the season, the Wildcats had their share of ups and downs with injuries and a few fluke series of events. Despite the slow start, they finished their regular season with their best score yet. If the Wildcats keep the groove they’ve found, they may upset the top seeds this weekend.
