Arizona track and field travels to Seattle

Arizona men’s and women’s track and field teams will send a group of mostly distance runners to Seattle for the UW Invitational this weekend.

The meet will take place on Friday and Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.

The only two athletes competing who are not distance runners are Germe Poston and Daniel Whitham. Poston, a Washington native, will compete in the 200-meter dash and 60-meter sprint. Junior, Whitham, will compete in the shot put competition during his first season as a Wildcat.

On the No. 8 men’s side for the distance runners, Matthew Beer, Dylan Hopper, Sam Macaluso, Travis Thorne and Sam Willis are set to compete in the mile. Kenji Bierig, Lawi Lalang, Jonas Legernes and Thomas Valente will run the 3,000-meter race.

For the women’s distance runners, Meg Bellino will run the 800-meter race. Kayla Ferron and Kate Penney will compete in the mile. Kayla Beattie, Stephanie Bulder, Clea Formaz, Maria Larsson and Erin Menefee will represent Arizona in the 3K.

Arizona will compete against British Columbia, BYU, California, Colorado, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, Utah and Washington, among others.
