Police Beat: September 26

He doesn’t even go here

On Monday, UAPD officers received a report about a non-UA affiliated man who sat in on two UA student club meetings.

On Sept. 11, a student-run group held its first meeting. Students were asked for their email addresses so that members of the group could contact them.

The unknown man showed up to the meeting and was given the sheet to write down his email address. The members of the group said they did not know the man but assumed he was a student, and therefore, a part of the group.

Later that week, the head of the group was contacted by a student in the group because the unknown man had emailed her, wanting to trade her assistance with his business for a Japanese massage.

At the next meeting, the head of the group confronted the man, asking for his student email because it was a student-run group and open only to UA students.

The man could not provide an email address. Instead, he told the group he was disappointed in their integrity and that he would have them all investigated.

The students gave the man’s description to the police. The description matched that of a man who had been caught shaving and washing himself in the Student Union Memorial Center in July and sleeping in a UA building in July 2011.

UAPD is currently on the lookout for the man.

Home away from home

Two UA students were arrested, cited and released for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in a UA residence hall dorm room on Monday at 9:20 p.m.

An RA reported to UAPD officers that a strong smell of marijuana was coming from one of the rooms in the residence hall.

The dorm floor’s RA took the officers to the room where the smell was coming from and officers found two UA students inside. Both students had bloodshot eyes and officers noticed their tongues had raised taste buds with a green tint toward the back of their mouths.

The students said they lived in the hall and admitted that they had smoked marijuana roughly 30 minutes before the officers arrived.

The officers were given permission to enter the room and the students gave them a white box with a rechargeable black vaporizer and a small glass jar with 0.8 grams of THC. One of the students said it was his smoking kit which he had brought from home.

Code of conduct violations were submitted to the Dean of Students Office for both students.
