The University of Arizona jumped to 46th in the public school rankings from the latest U.S. News & World Report best colleges lists, up 14 spots from last year.
U.S. News is known for its array of rankings ranging from best colleges in the nation to best public institutions.
In the national colleges ranking, the UA jumped 18 spots to No. 106.

The UA ranked higher than the other top Arizona university, Arizona State University. ASU ranked 115th on the top national colleges’ list and 52nd on the public school list.
The UA’s undergraduate business program, the Eller College of Management, was ranked No. 11 among public universities and No. 21 in the nation.
The UA’s College of Engineering undergraduate program ranked No. 31 among public institutions and tied for No. 55 among all doctoral and degree-granting universities in the nation.
The rankings are based on up to 16 measures that capture several dimensions of academic quality at each university.
The measures fall into eight broad areas which include: social mobility, undergraduate academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, financial resources, student selectivity, alumni giving, and faculty resources.
Scores for each measure are weighted on different scales which will ultimately create a final, overall score for each university.
As of 2018, U.S. News & World Report ranks UA as the best college in the state.
