The Arizona Wildcats men’s hockey team defeated the Maryville Saints 5-2 on Saturday afternoon. The game didn’t start out the way the ‘Cats wanted it to, as they trailed the game early in the second period, but the team rallied back and eventually won the game.

UA men’s hockey coach Chad Berman voiced his displeasure over the start of the game.

“We had an unacceptable start. No energy, we weren’t in the game and it’s happened way too often for us,” Berman said.

The unacceptable start that Berman was referring to was the Wildcats coming out flat to begin the game as the Saints scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead in the second period. However, it all started to come together after that goal from Maryville, as the Wildcats quickly responded with a goal from defenseman Ben Jones. Then, before the scoreboard could enter the score, another goal was cashed in from forward Ethan Stahlhuth.

The second-period goal scored by Maryville was the turning point in the game, as it seemed to spark the Wildcats into a goal-scoring frenzy. The Wildcats went on to score four goals in the period and held on to win the game 5-2.

Keelan Ulnick, a defenseman for the Wildcats, added two goals himself and was a big part of the win.

Arizona is now 11-3 on the season and is ranked No. 14 nationally.
