    Dosty sees first action

The Arizona volleyball team unofficially started its season Saturday with the annual Red-Blue scrimmage in McKale Center, where the Red Team, made up of back-ups and alumni, defeated the Blue Team, consisting of starters, 5-0.

The Wildcats got a taste of what could be a regular performance by highly touted freshman outside hitter Whitney Dosty, as she led all players with 14 kills.

Dosty said she felt good about the match and was especially impressed with the teamwork the Wildcats showed.

“”Working together on and off the court is really important, and I think if we do that then we will be successful,”” she said.

UA head coach Dave Rubio was also satisfied with the teams’ performance in the match but said he realizes that the squad has some work to do.

“”I think it went OK,”” Rubio said. “”I saw some good things that we worked on in practice that were encouraging, but then I saw some bad things that I wasn’t happy with. I think that there is a lot of room for improvement on this team.””

The Wildcats start their season against Siena on Friday at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Northern Colorado at 7 p.m., as they host the Four Points Sheraton Arizona Invitational in McKale Center.
