UA forward Amina Njonkou earned recognition yesterday for both excelling on the women’s basketball court and UA classroom.
Njonkou received an honorable mention in the Pacific 10 Conference’s All-Academic team, commissioner Tom Hansen announced yesterday.
Criteria to be eligible includes both a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and role as a starter or significant contributor.
Njonkou averaged 13.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game over the season, while posting a 49.6 field goal percentage – 8th best in the Pac-10. In the classroom, Spanish major Njonkou earned All-Pac-10 honorable mention honors with her 3.1 GPA.
UA athletics director Jim Livengood fired 17-year head coach Joan Bonvicini on March 17, and expects to hire her replacement next month through a private search firm.
