A car struck two pedestrians last night as they crossed a busy intersection near campus, police said.
The two pedestrians were walking northbound in the crosswalk on North Mountain Avenue across East Speedway Boulevard at 10:59 p.m. when they were struck, said Tucson Police Department Sgt. Dennise Wilson.
The two pedestrians suffered “”pretty serious injuries,”” she said. They were taken to a local hospital. Further information on the status of the pedestrians was not available at press time.
Wilson would not identify the victims and said she did not know if they were UA students.
Traffic investigators were still investigating early this morning and police were still interviewing several witnesses, Wilson said.
Police wouldn’t release the name of the driver or any information on the make or model of the car involved.
No citations were issued, though Wilson said police were still investigating.
Portions of Speedway and Mountain remained blocked off at 12:15 a.m., and Wilson said police would likely be diverting traffic for at least two more hours.
