Two suspects wanted in deadly SW Houston bar fight

Authorities have released a surveillance video of two suspects wanted in connection with a fight that left one man dead after he was hit with a baseball bat outside a sports bar in southwest Houston earlier this month. In the same incident, another man was injured when he was run over with a vehicle.

The fight occurred at the La Jugada Sports Bar in a strip center at 10701 West Bellfort about 11:50 p.m. April 3, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said Benites Marino Tapia, 36, of Houston, died in the altercation. He had blunt force trauma and died at the scene.

Another man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, police said. Police did not release the 39-year-old man’s injuries and said his condition was unknown.

    No other injuries were reported.

Police said officers were dispatched to the bar on a call about a person down. When they arrived, witnesses told them there had been a fight between several bar patrons. At some point, Tapia was hit with a baseball bat, and the other victim was run over by a vehicle.

Police said the two suspects in the case drove away after the fight, possibly in a black Chevrolet Equinox.
