Community Chatter: Should the U.S. have a postal service system?

“I feel everyone should have the right to give and receive mail. I sometimes use the post office but not very often. Every once in a while I use it to send my friend, who is out of state, letters and packages a least once month.”

Cierra Sanderson, biology freshman

“There are plenty of people who use the postal service but not me personally. It’s all archaic to me, I think everything should be digital. Snail mail is not efficient and doesn’t transport things very well.”

Brent Engel, political science senior

“I believe that we should have the postal service. Privatization doesn’t work well enough to fulfill people’s needs. I’m not convinced the reform for the postal service will fix the problem, it’s a more easy option but not a good way out.”

Natan Weinberg, retail and consumer science senior

“I think we should have a postal service. It is vital to the spreading of information and for the U.S. to have access to things like tax returns and other governmental information.”

Marina Lemar, library science graduate student

“There are still people who do not have access to the Internet or computers so it comes in handy to have the service. And it is also cool sometimes to have a tangible paper sent rather than email. I think that it is more personal.”

Bertha Mendoza, family studies and human development junior
