    Women’s hoops takes on unbeaten No. 10 Texas A&M;

    The Arizona women’s basketball team takes on No. 10 Texas A&M tonight at 7 in College Station, Texas.

    Winning against the Aggies (5-0) should prove to be an arduous task for the Wildcats (4-2), who are currently on a three-game winning streak.

    The last time the hosts played on their own hardwood – Nov. 21 – they blew McNeese State out of the water, 109-26, having six players score in double digits.

    “”We’re going to play a great team,”” UA head coach Joan Bonvicini said. “”They have excellent guard play, and they’re going to give us a lot of pressure.””

    The Aggies lead the Big 12 Conference in 10 of 19 statistical categories, including scoring defense, as they allow 43.8 points per game, and steals, with 13 per game.

    Meanwhile, Arizona is not far behind in steals, with 10.3 per contest.

    The Wildcats won’t be intimidated, though, and they will not alter their strategy of team balance for the contest, Bonvicini said.

    “”We want to make them adjust to us,”” she said. “”I wouldn’t say that I try to look specifically to (veteran guards) Joy (Hollingsworth) or Ashley (Whisonant). We try to be more balanced.””

    The key to success for Arizona lies within the consistency of the team’s play. In multiple games already this season the Wildcats have had an ample lead and let it slide, turning blowouts into nail-biters.

    “”We have moments of brilliance, and we’re just trying to stretch it to 40 minutes of play,”” Bonvicini said. “”When we do that, we’re going to be really good.””
