The Arizona women’s golf team played in one of the most important tournaments of the year last week at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Tournament at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course in Kane’ohe, Oahu, Hawaii. The Wildcats played solid through the whole event and actually led the tournament after the second round.
“”We just wanted to show everyone that we could play,”” said senior Alison Walshe.
But the Wildcats couldn’t hold onto the lead and walked away with a second-place finish at 35-over-par, two strokes behind first place Texas A&M.
Walshe led the way for the Wildcats as she posted a 6-over-par to take fourth place individually. Junior Amanda Wilson finished just behind with a 7-over-par to take fifth place.
Right behind them was senior Mary Jacobs (10-over, sixth place) and sophomore Emily Mason (22-over, 33rd).
The Wildcats continued to play well as a team and helped each other out by picking up anyone falling behind, something they have done especially well this year and is what has led to their success.
“”I think it’s great that we don’t have to rely on anyone,”” Walshe said. “”We play as a team and that has worked well for us.””
