Hung out to dry

A man who refused to leave the Student Union Memorial Center was cited and released for criminal trespassing at 10:31 p.m. on Jan. 28.

The man was sleeping in the Kachina room when a UA employee entered and asked him to leave and the man became “argumentative.”
He hadn’t been sleeping, he said, but drying his blanket. The man’s personal belongings were spread throughout the room.

The man left as the employee called the police.

The employee informed UAPD that the man had been involved in a similar incident on Jan. 27.

Shortly after the man left, UAPD found him at Speedway Boulevard and Park Avenue. A records check showed six prior contacts with UAPD regarding trespassing.

The man told police that he had just been drying out his belongings from the rain earlier. He admitted that he had been arrested by UAPD before, but denied that he had trespassed the night before in the Kachina room.

He was then cited and released for criminal trespassing. Additionally, he was issued an exclusionary order for six months and ordered not to return to the UA campus or buildings.

‘I’m not a felon!’

A UA student told UAPD, “I’m not a felon,” after she was cited and released for minor in possession outside of the Delta Delta Delta sorority house at 12:35 a.m. on Jan. 27.

UAPD met the student after a cab driver reported that an intoxicated woman was refusing to leave his cab.

Upon arrival, UAPD spoke with the driver and noted a woman slumped over in the left rear seat who smelled of alcohol. She woke up after police positioned her upright.

The student, who was 19 years old, had taken the cab from a Stone Avenue Standard apartment.

“Her eyes were red and watery in appearance, her words were slurred and she frequently cried, “‘I’m not a felon!’” according to the police report.

She denied drinking any alcohol, but due to her state, she was cited and released for minor in possession.

A friend paid the $10 cab fare.

Third time’s the charm

Two UA students were cited and released on charges of drug possession and minor in possession of alcohol in a Kaibab-Huachuca Residence Hall room at 12:17 p.m. on Jan. 26.

UAPD went to the dorm in response to a report of the smell of marijuana in the area. As the officer approached the room the smell was coming from, the resident, later identified with a California driver’s license, opened the door without being prompted.

The officer asked to enter the room, and the student gave his permission. Inside, the officer smelled marijuana and noticed another student playing a computer game at a desk.

UAPD asked to see any paraphernalia present in the room, and the student who’d opened the door showed the officer a clear glass pipe and blue metal grinder. He then admitted that he had smoked in the room with the other man, but added he had a California medical marijuana license.

UAPD asked if any additional paraphernalia was in the room and the student opened a drawer with three pipes and a cigarette box inside, which contained three “nugs” of what appeared to be marijuana. The marijuana was purchased in California, the student said.

The officer asked again if anything else prohibited was in the room. The student then produced two 40 oz. bottles of King Cobra and an empty bottle of Jack Daniel’s. He told UAPD he had obtained these with his fake ID, which he had since lost. The officer was unable to find the card after being given permission to look for it.

The bottles were then emptied and the paraphernalia and suspected marijuana were seized and taken into evidence. The students were cited and released on charges of drug paraphernalia and minor in possession.

Following this, the three nugs, which weighed 2.2 grams in total, tested positive for marijuana at the UAPD station.
