FINAL: No. 1 Arizona 71, Washington 62

Arizona remained perfect by holding off Washington, 71-62 in McKale Center Saturday afternoon.

The No. 1 Wildcats (15-0, 2-0 Pac-12) received a scare by UW (9-6, 1-1) in a game that saw six ties and nine lead changes, but held on.

Junior guard Nick Johnson lead the way with a career high 24 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Freshman forward Aaron Gordon had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore forward Brandon Ashley had nine points and three rebounds.

C.J. Wilcox led the way for the Huskies with 20 points.

UW junior forward Shawn Kemp Jr. fouled out with 10:37 to go, leaving with nine points. Then, with 9:54 left, the UA retook the lead on a Gordon dunk, 53-52, and never relinquished it.

Both Washington and Arizona shot 42 percent.

Arizona won the rebounding battle 38-34, and UW has 15 turnovers compared to the UA’s 11.

Arizona shot 81 percent from the free-throw line, while UW 83 percent.
