Given the lack of homework early in the semester, it’s the perfect time to go out and see a brand new movie or one you may have missed. Here are our top five picks for this weekend.
Hollywood is at it again with another big screen musical adaptation. Set in the 1960s and ’70s, “”Dreamgirls”” tells the story of a group of female R&B singers. While Jamie Foxx and BeyoncǸ Knowles are billed as the stars, look for former “”American Idol”” contestant Jennifer Hudson to steal the show.
This outrageous 2006 mockumentary has made its way to the cheaptheaters. If you can get past the naked male wrestling and other crude scenes, this film’s wit and social commentary is some of the best in years.
That’s right – another one. Sylvester Stallone’s classic character made a comeback over the winter break with the sixth movie in the “”Rocky”” series. If the critics are right, this one makes up for the box office failure that was “”Rocky V.””
Looking for something with more blood and guts? Be sure to check out this 2005 sequel to Rob Zombie’s “”House of 1000 Corpses.”” See it on the big screen as part of The Loft Cinema’s ongoing Cult Classic series (Friday and Saturday night only).
