    Journalism group hosts FERPA discussion

    The Society of Professional Journalists UA Chapter is having a forum today to discuss student privacy laws.

    The event focuses on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which is the federal law that protects student privacy. Academic records are off-limits to the public, meaning that everything from grades to alcohol violations aren’t public record (these records are public everywhere except at universities).

    The event is at 6:30 p.m. in the Javelina Room of the Park Student Union.

    The panelists are UA attorney Steve Adamczyk, UA Associate Vice President of communications Paul Allvin, Editor in Chief of the Arizona Daily Wildcat Aaron Mackey and a representative from the University of Arizona Police Department.

    Fraternity to host open mic night of poetry and singing

    The Alpha Alpha Epsilon chapter of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity is hosting its last famous “”Words from the Soul”” poetry night of the semester tomorrow night .

    Everyone is invited and encouraged to read poetry or sing. It is an open-mic event.

    The poetry night will be at Cellar in the basement of the Student Union Memorial Center.

    The event will start at 7:14 p.m. and continue until everyone has read or sung.

    It will be the 11th anniversary of the “”Words from the Soul”” poetry night at the UA.
