Fulbright Week at the University of Arizona will run from April 1-5.

Fulbright Week 2019 at the University of Arizona will be a week full of events all dedicated to educating UA’s students, staff and faculty about the different opportunities to go abroad available through the Fulbright Program. Fulbright Week will take place April 1-5 and is hosted by UA Global, the UA Graduate College and the UA Honors College.

The Fulbright Program consists of a scholar program, a student program and the Fulbright-Hays Program for graduate students, which send students, staff and faculty abroad to teach, do research or perform some other type of service. The goal of the Fulbright Program is to promote peace and diplomacy between the United States and other countries through education.

Information sessions for the scholar program and student program will be held during Fulbright Week to give students, staff and faculty an overview of the awards available through Fulbright.

“If you know nothing about Fulbright, you definitely want to attend the info sessions,” said Emily Kotay, International Partnerships manager at UA Global.

Three Fulbright recipients will present about their Fulbright experiences at the Fulbright Luncheon on April 3 in the Sonora Room of the Student Union Memorial Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration for the luncheon is required.

The presenters include a Fulbright Student recipient, a Fulbright Scholar recipient and international Fulbright recipient Dalal Radwan, who came to the UA with her Fulbright Scholar reward and is studying journalism.

“I would highly recommend Fulbright for anyone,” Radwan said. “Even if you think you have enough knowledge on a certain topic or country, there is always room for more learning and experiences. If you get the chance, just apply.”

An open house with opportunities to meet and connect with the UA’s Fulbright Program administrators and Fulbright representatives will be April 3 from 9-11 a.m. in the University Services Building Room 312.

Throughout Fulbright Week, each Fulbright program will have one-on-one advising sessions where Fulbright representatives and UA’s Fulbright Program administrators can meet and advise potential Fulbright candidates.

The UA has been designated a top producer of Fulbright students, scholars or both since 2009, excluding the 2016-2017 Fulbright season. For 2019, the UA was named a top producer of Fulbright scholars, with eight Fulbright scholar recipients.

“Sometimes students rule themselves out, but the UA has a really strong record of students winning Fulbright, so this is not a pipe dream,” said David Neufeld, assistant director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Scholarships. “It’s open to students from all different disciplines, and students of all different levels have applied successfully to Fulbright.”
