It was a weekend of memories and fun for the Arizona softball program. The 1996 National Championship alumni team did not appear to have forgotten what it takes to win as they defeated the “”other”” alumni 8-1. Former Wildcat Jenny Dalton led the 1996 team with a three-run homer that sealed the victory.
“”This is a chance to honor some wonderful ladies from the ’96 team, as well as to bridge the gap between the past and present in Arizona softball,”” said head coach Mike Candrea.
It was a big weekend for Dalton, who showed off the power she exhibited while at Arizona, winning the home run derby that took place before the game.
Alison Johnsen-McCutcheon proved she wanted in on the action when she hit a two-run single.
Other big names who played in the game include Susie Parra, Becky Lemke and current assistant coach Nancy Evans. Jennie Finch was also on hand but did not play in the game, as she is pregnant with her first child.
