Brief: Near-campus shooting leaves no injuries, building damage

A shooting that happened near campus just before midnight on June 21 left no one with injuries, but did cause damage to a university building, according to a UAPD campus watch bulletin.

In the report, witnesses say they saw a silver Ford Mustang with black side decals traveling north on Park Avenue, within the street’s 600 block. Both the car’s driver and passenger were described as white males, and the passenger apparently wore a black short-sleeve shirt and either a black cap or black hair. One of these occupants was firing a handgun into the air as the vehicle drove by.

No injuries were reported, but an unspecified university building was damaged in the shooting just before the vehicle left the area.

The University of Arizona Police Department is asking anyone with information on the incident to call 911 or 88-CRIME.

The department also advised people traveling through campus to avoid using cellphones, to travel in well-lit areas and to be aware of the blue-light emergency buttons.
