Tucson local Quinlan Wilhite finds passion in fashion, to debute new clothing line at TFW

(Courtesy Quinlan Wilhite) Tucson-based designer Quinlan Wilhite plans to show his unique and lifestyle-based brand QMULATIVE at this years fashion week.

Quinlan Wilhite never thought QMULATIVE-labeled stickers and Arizona-shaped pocket t-shirts would gain him access to the biggest night at Tucson Fashion Week, but it did.

After two internships at clothing companies in California, he said he knew he had found his passion. As his love for fashion grew through art, cars, music, skateboarding and architecture, Wilhite knew it was time to step it up and bring his dreams to life.

“Garments is definitely on the newer end,” Wilhite said. “I’m personally learning construction and patterns.”

His grandmother taught him to sew in 2013. Since then, he has been taking sewing classes at Pima Community College to increase his skill for his new garment line, which will be presented at TFW. Up until recently, QMULATIVE included more simple and intricate products.

Wilhite was born and raised in Tucson, but he is not letting the desert influence his designs that he will be showcasing at TFW.

“Rather than do just a desert theme, I figured I’d just switch it up and make what I wanted to make,” Whilhite said.

His new line is from scratch and will resemble streetwear and he is looking forward to meeting the new people QMULATIVE will draw in at TFW. Wilhite said he is also looking forward to the networking and the exposure he will receive through TFW.

“I don’t really put streetwear and this type of fashion in the same category,” Wilhite said.

Wilhite said his designs will most likely draw the attention of the people of TFW, considering it is a unique type of style for an event like this. Normally, a high-end version of streetwear is included, but he went for a different, more aesthetic look.

Of course, Wilhite is more than excited for TFW, but his nerves are definitely on edge. He said that he is hoping that everything will go as planned and that TFW will be nothing but a success for his future, as well as QMULATIVE’s.
