The Arizona baseball team was able to sweep its three-game weekend series at the University of Washington, moving them to 20-7 on the season. Here is how this weekend went for the Wildcats.

Friday: Arizona wins 8-3 

Arizona’s catcher Daniel Susac opened the scoring in the weekend series with a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning. The Wildcats were able to score two more runs in the next inning with Noah Turley scoring on a fielder’s choice and Mac Bingham scoring off a Susac single.

Washington was able to get their first run off of Arizona’s starting pitcher, T.J. Nichols, in the bottom of the third inning. The Huskies were able to cut Arizona’s lead to 1 run after they scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning. 

Arizona’s offense was able to respond in the next inning as Susac hit his second home run of the game. The Wildcats were able to score again in the seventh and eighth innings to close out the game.

Saturday: Arizona wins 6-2 

First baseman Tommy Splaine was able to give Arizona an early lead with a solo home run in the second inning. Arizona would give up 2 runs in the next inning, giving Washington their first lead of the series. The Wildcats would tie the game back up 2-2 after Tanner O’Tremba scored on Splaine’s ground out. 

Both pitchers found their stride after the fourth inning shutting down both offenses until the eighth inning. Arizona was able to break the game open in the eighth as Splaine was once again able to drive in O’Tremba for the second time in the game. Arizona extended their lead as Chase Davis and Splaine scored on a Turley double. 

Arizona was still not done as Nik McClaughry hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to give Arizona a 6-2 lead. Holden Christian was able to complete the two-inning save to give him five saves in the year. 

Sunday: Arizona wins 7-6 

Once again, Arizona was able to get on the scoreboard first in the final game of the series, as McClaughry walked with the bases loaded, scoring Splaine. With the bases still loaded, Bingham was able to clear the bases with a double, giving the Wildcats a 4-0 lead. 

Washington would slowly cut into Arizona’s lead by scoring a run in the second, third and fifth innings, cutting the lead down to one. Arizona would respond with a two RBI double from Davis in the seventh inning. The Huskies would not go away as they were able to tie the game up 6-6 after scoring 3 runs in the eighth inning. 

Arizona was able to retake the lead in the top of the 11th inning, as Bingham scored on an O’Tremba single. Relief pitcher Trevor Long was able to close out the game in his third inning of work out of the bullpen.  

Arizona will play rival ASU on Tuesday, April 5 in Phoenix Municipal Stadium at 6 p.m.
