Arizona men’s golf finishes 14th in Invitational

The Arizona men’s golf team finished the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate and took 14th place with a stroke total of 911 (+47).

New Mexico won the tournament for the fourth straight year and finished the tournament with a stroke total of 840 (-24). 

“Albuquerque is a fun trip for our team,” Arizona men’s golf coach Jim Anderson said in a press release before the competition. “We get to see everyone play on a championship course in challenging conditions. We have a young group but, fortunately, each of our returners have seen the course. We are working on getting better each week and know we will learn a lot from the week.”

Sophomore Jordan Gumberg placed the highest individually again for the Wildcats with scores of 226 (+10), good for a tie of 47th place. Freshman Ari Guiuigian played well and had scores of 228 (+12) to tie him for 56th place. 

Sophomore Max Donohue and redshirt freshman Andrew Garner tied with each other for 71st place at 15-over-par. 

The Wildcats had four golfers play individually in the tournament. Two freshman led the way for the individual play. Tyler Moore and Martin Larrea came in 77th place and 89th place with scores of 16- and 22-over-par respectively. 

Redshirt freshman Austin Stadeli notched a stroke total of 241 (+25), earning a share of 93rd place. Senior Kolton Lappa rounded out the individual players and finished the weekend with a 239 (+23), good for 91st place. 

In total, 16 teams competed in the event from all over the nation. According to Arizona Athletics, the course teams played at was the UNM Championshiop Golf Course, which is 18-holes and a 7,556-yard course. The competition took place over 54 holes. 

The Wildcats compete next weekend in Portland, Ore., for the NCI Invitational from Oct. 4-6.
