It’s a good thing they didn’t board the plane.
The No. 25 Arizona men’s golf team was so eager to atone for its disappointing showing in its opener that the Wildcats almost left for their next tournament a week early.
Due to confusion over the schedule, the team actually purchased airline tickets for Saturday, believing the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate began today.
The tournament, held in Birmingham, Ala., actually takes place Oct. 9-10, so the Wildcats will leave next Saturday – with the correct tickets. Arizona hopes to improve on last year’s performance in Birmingham, when they finished 10th out of 12 teams.
As a result of the mix-up, Arizona gets an unexpected week of practice and will try to work out the kinks that led to its sub-par performance in Albuquerque, N.M., last weekend.
