After two days of play on Monday and Tuesday, the Arizona men’s golf team finished eighth at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate.
This was a wrap for the team’s fall season and it finished with a total of 886 ( 34) for the tournament.
The Wildcats were in 15th after the first round, improved to 12th after the second round and moved to eighth on Tuesday to conclude the tournament.
“It was a huge boost to see our team shoot a good number today,” head coach Jim Anderson said in a press release.
Anderson said they talked about being competitive despite their position on the field after Monday.
“Today was a fight, and even though eighth isn’t our best, we took a small step forward,” Anderson said.
Senior Erik Oja got his fourth top-10 finish in five starts for the fall season. He shot an even-par 71 on Tuesday, which brought his total to 215 ( 2).
Senior Benson Liu played as an individual and tied for 53rd with a total of 226 ( 13). Junior Alex McMahon finished with a tie for 16th with a total of 218 ( 5). Junior Brenden Redfern had his best round of the season on Tuesday with a total of 221 ( 8) finishing in a tie for 26th.
Anderson said the runners will continue to work hard if they want to return to regionals.
The men will continue their season in late January when they host the Arizona Intercollegiate at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson.
