The No. 6 Arizona men’s and unranked women’s track and field teams had a lot to be proud of after finishing day two of the Mt. San Antonio College track meet in Walnut, Calif.

Two sprinters had huge personal records, said head track and field coach Fred Harvey.

First off for the women’s side was senior sprinter Marquita Taylor who placed second overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.94 seconds.

Harvey said her performance was wonderful.

“”She did an awesome job,”” Harvey said.

On the men’s side, junior sprinter Daniel Olea ran a No. 7 all time Arizona record of 48.42 in the 400-meter dash.

The 5-foot-10 Wildcat placed ninth overall and was quite impressive, Harvey said.

In the men’s discus, junior thrower Jarred Sola also scored big for the Wildcats by placing 11th overall in the competition with a distance of 48.53m.

In the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, distance junior Ryan Ludwig also placed second in the competition with a time of 9:13.55.

The Arizona Wildcats were also aided by distance sophomore Danielle Onate and freshman Marissa Urban in the women’s 1,500m run, as both placed in the top three of the competition.

Onate earned second-place honors with a time of 4:37.47.

Not far behind, Urban finished in third place with a time of 4:38.93.

In the men’s 1,500m run, distance runner sophomore Kenny Frank earned fourth-place honors with a time of 3:50.04.

Wildcats look to continue success at Long Beach Invitational

The No. 6 men’s and unranked women’s track and field teams will try to continue their success after this week’s Mt. SAC performance as they compete in this weekend’s Long Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif.

The meet, to take place all day tomorrow, will feature many top Wildcat performers such as sophomore thrower Rachel Varner, said track and field director of operations Francesca Green.

Distance junior Eric Chavez and sophomore distance runner Angelina Cabrera will be featured in the event.

“”It’s basically another big meet this weekend that will give them the opportunity to get good times,”” Green said. “”It’s not a super big meet.””

The meet won’t be as competitive as the Mt. SAC relays, Green said, but it will be pretty good.

“”It’s a completely separate meet,”” Green said.
