After impressive wins in their season-opening meet against Wisconsin, the No. 4 Arizona men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to the pool against USC and the UCLA women this afternoon at 2 at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
The No. 13 Trojan men’s, the No. 15 women’s squad and the No. 14 UCLA women will provide tougher tests for the Wildcats than did the Badgers a week ago.
“”Our lineup might change, but our mindset won’t,”” said UA head coach Frank Busch. “”It’s the same approach. But ‘SC is a better team.””
After seeing his team in competition for the first time this season, Busch saw some aspects that needed to be improved, and the teams have been working on them in preparation for USC.
“”We feel our team is very fit,”” he said. “”We are just polishing things up a bit. We’re paying attention to detail, working on starts and turns. We’re coming along good.””
Tomorrow, Arizona will host UC-Irvine, which features the No. 18 men’s team in the mid-major rankings.
Preparing for two different teams on two different days is not as difficult a challenge as one may think, Busch said.
“”It doesn’t change anything,”” he said. “”We go about this from a seasonal approach rather than opponent to opponent.””
The coach knows, however, that two good meets are key for the rest of Arizona’s season.
“”It’s real important because we have Texas in a few weeks, and that’s a huge meet for us,”” Busch said. “”The more we tune up for that, the better.””
